- What is the purpose of a denture?
- Dentures are removable appliances that can replace missing teeth and help restore your smile. If you’ve lost all of your natural teeth, whether from gum disease, tooth decay or injury, replacing missing teeth will benefit your appearance and your health.
- Prosthesis is a part where one individual has to undergo in his or her life time. Dental prosthesis has a vast range, where dentures is a part. Many elderly in today’s world are devoid of teeth in the mouth (oral cavity). Teeth loss may be due to gum problems or due to ageing. Once there is tooth loss there is difficulty in chewing food hence the person becomes lean and weak. You can notice elderly people with teeth and without teeth, elderly with teeth are much healthier and stronger that the counterpart. And other elderly who have prosthesis are also healthier. Dentures is a removable prosthesis where an individual has to avail when, there are no teeth present in the mouth or oral cavity. Missing or absent teeth have to be replaced. Denture is a removable prosthesis that is used adversely to replace the all teeth in the mouth. Edentulous is the condition called when there are no teeth present in the oral cavity.
- The process involves impression of the dental arches i.e. upper and lower jaw measurements. The impression taken is used to prepare the primary denture plate which is a rough replica of the jaws, a secondary impression along with bite is registered and taken, so as to achieve proper seal at the junction of denture surface and the jaws. Teeth are set in the denture plate using wax and a series of steps are taken to check the compatibility of the denture. Once finalized the final denture is prepared. There are two types of materials used acrylic and porcelain. Denture is an important prosthesis for elderly and also to those individuals who lost teeth due to injury or medical condition. Advanced denture prosthesis like BPS (bio functional prosthetic system) dentures are also done which show a higher percentage of patient satisfaction and with very good precision. This removable prosthesis is the most common apparatus used to replace the missing tooth. These upper and lower dentures are used to give you a bright and complete your smile, which also aid in chewing of food.
